Kayden tried it once and thought it was the most disgusting thing she'd ever tasted, so she just worked as a waitress and singer. It was her job to get Karaoke started, pick it up when it was slow, and in between that, take food orders and deliver said orders back to their respective order-ers. It wasn't anything really special, but it worked. It was a job, and she would take the money wherever she could get it. She parked her car around the back of the bar, smoothing her gold dress as she walked around to the entrance, smiling to the guy checking Id's, " Hey Tony, I'm working tonight..." Kayden stepped past him into the bar that was filled with loud, country music. She went into the back room and put her jacket and purse into her locker and grabbed her half apron, notepad, and pens, tying it around her waist before pulling her hair back into a bun of sorts. She then took a deep breath and clocked in, putting a smile on her face as she went to start taking orders. At first things were moving quickly, and people were ordering food and the Karaoke mic wasn't left empty for long, but after a while it slowed to a crawl. Kayden then took her apron off and tossed it into the back room before stepping up onto the stage, hitting a few buttons on the karaoke system, adjusting her levels a bit before starting to sing the song "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood. Nate walked into the bar, his phone shoved into the pants of his Levis. His tee shirt spread over his muscular arms and torso, because really holding up a thousand pounds of muscle wasn’t something easy. He’d came from work after a quick shower, since he had agreed to spend time with his lovely sister, Lexus. She was in toe, slowed by the whole ID thing. He hadn’t seen her much, between her work, his work and the fact she was attempting to make connections since she was bound and determined to own a stable. And she was stubborn, so she’d do it at some point in time. Nate scanned the bar for a spot and was about to sit down at the bar when he felt Lexus shove him towards karaoke. “Do it” he heard her say and he wandered over after he got a beer from the bar. He wasn’t sure if Lexus had pointed him towards the blonde on stage or if she actually wanted him to sing. His voice wasn’t anything to spectacular, but his sister seemed to think he was good enough for karaoke. He enjoyed it, but his sister had a much better stage presence. But she didn’t have an amazing voice, so he usually bought her a few shots first. [/blockquote]

She waited a minute before lifting the microphone to her mouth again, " Anybody? Anyone at all? C'mon now. I know y'all have some singers out there, so somebody get up here on this mic." She looked around at the patrons at the bar, and watched as a blonde pushed a guy toward the stage, most likely wanting him to sing. Kay smiled, " Do I have a taker here?" She stepped to the side of the stage so that he could come up if he wanted to. " What'll it be?" She held the microphone out to him, starting to turn to the switchboard so she could adjust levels and put in the song selection if he chose a song. [/ul] Notes:

Nate kind of glanced in the direction of everyone form side to side and finally moved onto the stage. He did not really feel like getting up in front of a large crowd but he just did it, the girl seemed like she wanted somebody else to sing. Might as well give her a break, he really had nothing better to do. “Umm…She’s Country?” said Nate looking at the girl, totally not even sure what to say- The last time he did this he was not on his first beer. Nate took the microphone and kind of looked sideways at the girl, she was pretty and she could sing. But she totally wasn’t in his league, too pretty and totally didn’t look like the type to hang out in a barn twenty four seven. Not in those heels and that dress, that’s for sure. Nate heard the music start and sung the song easily, after the first line he calmed easily and got into it, forgetting he was a hundred percent sober. He barely noticed the song ended, and he smiled at the girl as he handed her the microphone. “Your turn” he said with a smile.

She punched it in and then stepped down off of the stage really quickly to get some work done while the guy sang his song. She refilled a couple drinks, then looked up at the stage as the song ended. She set down a glass of beer in front of the guy who ordered it and then went up on the stage, taking the microphone from him and saying a quick thank you. She really was grateful that someone had been willing to sing something so she wouldn't have to. Of course, there were only so many songs a person could sing, and it seemed that this guys limit was one. While he was sober anyways. You never really could predict what people would do once they had a few beers under their belts. " Let's hear it for this fine gentleman right here!" She smiled and held a hand out to let people clap, then went to the switchboard, " Alright. Well, I'll sing y'all one more song, then I gotta get back to work, so you all better step it up and sing." It was a gentle teasing, the kind of thing Kayden would do, and often did. She pressed the play button and sang a song she wrote, called 'I fly.' It wasn't anything overly exciting, but it was a song, and it passed some of the time. When it finished, she bowed a little, " Alright, folks. That's all for me for now. I gotta get you all some more beer so I can pay for my horse's food. Because I tell you, he's definitely an unhappy horse when he's hungry." She smiled and shook her head, " Now y'all need to get up here and sing." [/ul] Notes:

Nate slipped his hand around his beer and drank it easily, grabbing a stool at the bar. He listened to the girl sing, she had a really nice voice but the song didn’t sound familiar. He wondered if she wrote it, or if she was just singing a song he didn’t know. He looked for Lexus, but he soon realised she’d disappeared somewhere. Which was like her, she was a bit of a social butterfly. He heard the girl mention horse and his head turned, suddenly she really drew his attention. But she still looked like she could be a real wannabe, who just owned a dead broke quarter horse. He wondered, but he didn’t dare ask. He just nodded for another beer and wondered what the hell he was supposed to do on a night out with her sister, when his sister left him. What was weird that she wasn’t with any guys, just a few girls that looked around her age. He could easily rule out that she wasn’t gay, so what the hell was up? She’d never been a slut but she’d usually at least flirted lightly with the odd cowboy when she went to a bar. But she wasn’t. There was something up, something big. She usually used and abused a chance at a social life, not this. There was somebody, whether it was barely nothing or a lot but somebody was on her mind. Nate looked back up, taking another sip of the cold beer and enjoying it as it ran down his throat. He scanned for the blonde girl, wondering what her job actually was.

She went off, her cowboy boots clunking quietly as she went, the sound completely different from her heels she had been wearing before. [/ul] Notes:

“You can thank my sister, she’s the one who was nice enough to force me into. Usually I wait until at least everybody else I know is plastered” said Nate, sipping his beer easily as he watched her fill the glasses. A waitress but she had to sing? It was like a PG version of Coyote Ugly. Something that he couldn’t believe he’d watched, but seriously when the satellite goes out and it’s that or something even cheesier, it’s that. Nate glanced away, Lexus was still talking. He almost wanted to go over and ask her, but he knew she’d never give him a straight answer. He nodded as the girl said she was going to deliver drinks and looked as he heard the clicking that didn’t sound like high heels. Cowboy boots? He thought as he watched the boots move through the crowd. He had definitely underestimated her. As she came back around he spoke up, “I’m Nate by the way”.

She leaned her elbows on the bar top, " You shouldn't wait until everyone's drunk, by the way. You sounded just fine. I, on the other hand, most certainly should not be singing, whether everyone's drunk or not." She smiled and shook her head. She then nodded to his beer glass, " Need me to top that off?" She shrugged, " It's on the house." She held up the tap, and smiled, waiting for an answer. After a minute she looked up at the still empty stage. One of the waiters had switched the system over to just play the songs, so it would be a little while before she had to sing again. At least, until someone asked her to. Which, hopefully, wouldn't be for a while. But again, you never knew what people would do once they were stumbling around a bar, drunk. It always made for an interesting night at work, that was for sure. She then followed Nate's gaze over to a group of girls who were chatting a short ways away, " I take it that's your sister? What's her name?" She then immediately recoiled, worried that he might take it the wrong way, " I'm just curious. I don't mean to intrude or anything." [/ul] Notes:

“I think that you must need some hearing aids, because I am not that good. You on the other had, well there’s a reason they put you up there.” said Nate smiling at the girl. She seemed nice, but he couldn’t peg her. She didn’t seem stuck up, but she didn’t seem like a push over. She was funny, but she wasn’t full of one liners. He couldn’t make her out, and it wasn’t that she was avoiding being herself. He was slightly intrigued, wondering who exactly she was. He could see her in English tack, but also in a western saddle. She’d definitely caught his interest, which was different considering it wasn’t strictly for physical reasons. “Sure, but I’ll pay for it” said Nate tossing a five onto the counter, he wasn’t sure how much a beer was. “If anything, put it towards the horse. We all know they never stop needing stuff” said Nate, taking another drink of the now even cooler beer. It slid down nicely, and he was glad to just sit down and have a drink. Lately he’d been working a lot, mainly because Lexus had taken over riding his horses for a bit because she wanted Romeo jumping better and well she enjoyed hacking his stallion so, he’d let her. He got to meet lots of clients, and that was most of the business. “Yup, the one and only. Well actually her friend might as well be my sister, but she’s the only blood” said Nate, looking at Lexus once again and wondering where Mercedes was, it was weird for her not to be at a bar. That pretty much meant she was at the bigger bar, which meant she was out scanning for guys. That girl was going to get herself in to trouble on day, but Nate attempted to do his best to keep her out of it. He had become way to in tune with the two of them, and it bothered him but they were family.

By like, five bucks." She shook her head and set it back down on the counter, " You've got that right. Last week, my gelding tore his fly mask. Again. It's beyond repair now, so I'll have to give in and buy him a new one. Gotta love Arabians." She smiled, then looked over at Lexus, nodding as he finished explaining, and said that Lexus' friend might as well be his sister, but Lexus was the only blood sibling. Kay shook her head, wishing she had had some soblings growing up, but she was an only child, raised by a single parent father. Needless to say, life revolved around the barn and horses growing up, not siblings or friends, though she still had plenty of them. Kayden was a naturally magnetic person, though she was really rather shy- she just faked an outgoing personality, and most of the time everyone believed her. She fancied herself a good actress, though she would never tell anyone. It was bad enough that they made her sing every night that she worked. [/ul] Notes:

“If you weren’t working, I’d seriously think you were drunk. There’s no way my voice would ever be better then yours” said Nate shaking his head at the girl, seriously he may not be tone deaf but he wasn’t at all talented. He glanced over at his sister again, puzzled. It would bug him for the rest of the night why she wasn’t even going near a guy. Seriously, if she was just lightly flirting he could find a few explanations but none at all? Beyond weird, like way beyond weird. He looked bay at Kayden when she said he over paid and just laughed. He’d sat and really fancy sports bars and paid fifteen dollars a beer, five was nothing. Lexus had a habit of always wanting to go out together, and then wondering away. It was a pain, but it stopped her complaining that he needed to spend time with her. Yeah she was a weird sister, she demanded he spend time with her. Then again, he hated when she was never home. “Yeah, some days I feel like just handing each of my horses a bank card and telling them to go for it. “ said Nate, shaking his head at the idea. But seriously, he did his one farrier work and it still cost him a ton. Though Lexus was bit of an over achiever when it comes to horses and since his were stallions well stallions, he didn’t even bother to say anything about the wonderful get ups they sometimes got turned out it. Sometimes they even wore superman hoods when it was cold. Yes, he was aware that sometimes his horses looked gay. But seriously Lexus was way too stubborn, so he just let her do whatever.

So there's no way I would be drunk. Unless it's possible to get drunk on Coca Cola." She smiled and laughed, watching as Nate looked over at his sister, apparently confused about something. Kayden decided not to pry, and instead just waited, handing someone a bottle of beer as they came to the bar to order. She took the money and stuck it in her apron pocket- she would put it in the register later. When Nate turned his attention back and replied to her comment, and she laughed. " You've got that right. It's like they straight up eat money. Sometimes you think they might as well make it out of alfalfa so we can just use it as feed." She smiled and shook her head, " Oh, I was going to ask... What kind of horses do you ride? It doesn't really matter, I was just curious." It was mostly meant to try and further the conversation, but if that didn't work, she was sure a little more beer would. [/ul] Notes:

“I have two stallions, one is a western pleasure horse and the other is a jumper. But he was supposed to be western, my sister decided he looked more English.. So I started him jumper, but either Lexus will take him into the big ring or sell him. Depends what she thinks of him..” said Nate, aware he was rambling on about stupid nothings. But he felt the more you talked, the easier it was to come up with conversation back. At least it seemed to work when he first met people, since other words the most they’d get out of him was a sentence of maybe four words. “How about you, own any horses?” asked Nate, not really sure how to word the question. He didn’t know if she rode western or English, but he was leaning towards western. He knew she had a horse, but he had no idea what she did with it. She could be one of those halter fanatics, which he found extremely weird but he’d never been into the whole thing.

She decided against it, since she wasn't as used to Sissy yet, since she was so different from her Gelding. She was a push button horse, but only if you knew the right buttons, and Kay was still figuring those out. For now, she would just stick to showing Cole. Kayden turned her attention back to Nate, " Do you show? Or are you a 'working cowboy'?" [/ul] Notes:
