So I've noticed something about horses on this board. Because horses are available at the store for $50, all horses will only ever have the value of $50. This means that:
1) If you ever want to sell your horse, you can get a maximum of $50, because anyone can create the exact horse they want for $50 at the pet store. 2) Trying to sell horses is difficult, because anyone can create the exact horse they want at the pet store (this makes it hard for anyone who wants to have a career as a horse breeder, as im sure many people would enjoy)
So I considered whether horses should be unavailable in the pet store. Horses will still enter the game through new members (joining with horses), breeding horses, and of course, capturing wild horses. This would make it so that..
1) You can breed horses and make money selling them, as a career. 2) Your horse will actually have monetary value 3) You could make money by owning a stallion and offering him as a stud.
Changes that would be made...
1) The vet/vet clinic would become the 'breeding ground'. Take two horses there to have them bred/foaled. 2) The pet store would no longer offer horses for sale 3) Spirit Valley would have a "Wild Horse Profile List" so that anyone capturing a horse from there would have to select the horse they are capturing from this list. This would limit the amount of wild horses being entered into the game at $50 a pop, and would also make wild horses more realistic (nobody would be capturing friesians from the wild, lol) 4) I would randomly add horses to the auction house of different breeds, to be sure that a variety of breeds of horses were entered into the population, so that everyone has choices.
BUT, before I make a decision like this, id like all of your opinions!

I think that you have a point, and I would thoroughly enjoy becoming a horse breeder!

I don't think they should. Michel would love the extra buisness I'm sure. If we go with the breeders, could he charge $5 for the test and foaling assistance?

Lexus has a point, basic horses for sale would work.. with the breeding/studing thing becoming more important if horses arnt in the pet shop, giving horses points for showing etc would be important.
I was considering making it so that you have 2 options for gaining points.
1) Shows. Those in 1st place get 5 points, 2nd place get 3, 3rd get 1 (something like that. Of course, the horse's and their points would be in a staff controlled list). 2) Training. Horse training could be something that was purchased with $$ from designated horse trainers, and the points added to the trained horse.

^ love that idea, very very good. it also gives the trainers an income and is way more realistic. Plus there should be like a plus 5 points if your horse has a lesson(which you most roleplay the whole thing with a coach). Get what I mean? And I think for shows it should be 1st= 25, 2nd=20 3rd=15 4= 10 5+6= 5

- Horses have been removed from the pet store completely - A wild horses list has been created in Spirit Valley
Here is the explaination thats been put into the Rules/How-To thread. Please especially note that..
1) vets dont charge money for breeding/foaling (jobs dont make you money, it would be way too much exchanging, very time consuming) however money exchanges WILL happen for stud fees. 2) take a look at the explaination on how shows/points work. YES, there are only 1st/2nd/3rd places in shows right now, because we dont have THAT many people entered in shows. as activity increases, more places will be added.
Horses
Obtaining a horse
There are four ways to get a horse. 1) When you join, you can join with a horse. 2) Purchase a horse from another player (at the auction house) 3) Breed your horse with someone else's horse 4) Purchase a capture license and capture a wild mustang from Spirit Valley.
Showing a horse
You can enter your horse in shows that are run by the stables. Of all the people who participate in the shows, the top 5 competators (based loosely on the in-show roleplaying that was done) will be chosen by the stable owner. From these 5, the Admin will roll dice to decide who gets 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place. When you place in an event, the horse gains points (the more points a horse has, the more valuable it is) 1st place = 15 points 2nd place = 10 points 3rd place = 5
Breeding a horse
If you have a stallion, you can advertise the stallion for stud in the Classifieds board. You can charge money to let people breed their mares to your stallion, or advertise that you'd like to pay someone to breed their mare to your stallion so you may keep the foal. The more points your stallion has, the more you can charge for stud fees.
Go to the Vet clinic to breed your horses, and return to the vet clinic to foal the horses. The vet clinic will not charge money to breed your horses.

Training a horse
Horses can be trained by trainers for a fee. The minimum free that a trainer can charge is $100 per session. One session will award 10 points.
Trainers can be found employed by one of the stables. Only trainers working AS trainers at a stable can train horses for points. Stables can employ up to 3 trainers.

Added:
When the time comes for a mare to give birth at the vet clinic (the amount of time pregnancy lasts is up to you) notify a staff member and they will post the basic stats of the newborn foal.

training can be purchased, like anything else, at the bank.
- If you ARE a trainer, you can purchase the points at the bank for the base rate of 100$ for 10 pts.
- If youre NOT a trainer, and your buying training, you also go to the bank, but you specify that the funds are being transfered to the trainer, and you pay the rate that the trainer requires.

Okay so i know this topic has been over for a while but i just ran into a problem with no real new horses into the game. The only thing we're going to have is a repeat of horses there won't be any new blood into the game i see this as a problem mainly because once you sell horses your out of horses to sell you can't really get anymore unless someone wants to sell thier horses which more then likely won't happen since they are thier ideal horses. Heres a solution though. Maybe once a month precreated horses maybe 2-3 should be added to the auction ring where members can purchase them but once thier sold thier gone. I think it would help the game from just freezing with horses. i don't know if you guys agree or not but just some food for thought. And yes i'm rambling but mainly because i'm half asleep and yet to have my tea.
